Tycho Brahe Had A Pet Moose And A Metal Nose As Well As An Abiding Interest In Astronomy.

Astronomer and nobleman, 1546-1601. Encyclopedia says he was a “Danish astronomer whose work in developing astronomical instruments and in measuring and fixing the positions of stars paved the way for future discoveries. His observations—the most accurate possible before the invention of the telescope—included a comprehensive study of the solar system and accurate positions of more than 777 fixed stars.”

Yeah yeah yeah — boring. Howzabout this:

He had a copper nose prosthesis made after losing most of his nose in a rapier duel while a young man at university. The prosthesis required the use of an adhesive nose-paste which he carried around with him. Nose-paste! It is said that for fancier outings he wore a (shinier?) prosthesis made of precious metal, but copper was lighter for everyday wear.

Tycho also was supposed to have owned a tame pet moose (a moose once bit my sister — mind you, moose bites can be pretty nasty). Moose entered the castle during a party, drank too much beer, fell down the stairs. That is what always happens with moose. I’ve stopped inviting them.
